Statistics 526C Term 2 2005-6 Smoothing Methods/Functional Data Analysis: PROJECTS If you have a specific interest/data set for a project - great. The best way to come up with a project is for you to think about it a bit, and also to discuss your interests with me. The projects from 2003 can be found in the running outline, near the end. One of these is on our internal help site: a paper on the software siZer. You can see a list of 2002-3 ideas. ADDITIONAL IDEAS (beyond those listed in 2002-3): anything from functional data analysis - for instance, learn part of the fda package and write a "how-to" with a sample analysis of a data set. run a simulation study to see if, eg, functional discriminant analysis improves on the usual linear discriminant analysis.
